Red Devil’s “Green” Journey

At Red Devil, one of our goals is to meet today’s product demand by producing superior caulks, sealants and repair products while helping to preserve the environment. As our CEO, William Lee eloquently put it, “‘Being ‘Green’ means different things to different people at different times. It is a moving target and more importantly an endless journey. Green may be a moving target, but it is addressable by continually striving to improve the way we use resources and treat our environment. The way I suggest we do so is to sidestep the issue of definition, avoid the temptation for mere window dressing, and focus on ways we can reduce our environmental footprint through concrete action.”

Red Devil has been on our “green journey” for decades now. We have made great strides and much progress in our Corporate Green Initiative.

1. We Went Paperless Before It Was a "Thing.”

Long before paperless billing was the “it” thing to do, Red Devil’s EDI initiative (Electronic Date Interface) was encouraging our clients to go paperless. Now more than half of our current billing is paperless.

2. We Strive to Minimize or Avoid the Bad Stuff.

For years our research efforts have focused on minimizing or eliminating hazardous ingredients in product formulations without compromising performance.  For instance, our products do not contain asbestos or chromates. We have also replaced ethylene glycol, a toxic solvent commonly used in latex products, with a non-toxic propylene glycol and also the ingredient, aqueous ammonia, with less volatile materials.

3. Water-Based is Better Than Solvent-Based Any Day.

We strive to produce water based products that are cleaner, safer and perform just as well or better than many of the solvent-based products from our competitors. The way we see it, if we can produce a quality product that performs well and is safer for our employees, consumers and the environment, that’s a win-win-win.

4. The Environment Loves Our Packaging.

All of our boxes are made of recycled paper, so when you purchase a case of Red Devil products, you can be confident that no trees were cut in the process.

5. Our Commitment is Internal.

Years ago, Red Devil implemented an aggressive internal recycling policy throughout all of it's offices. We limit scape by incorporating the use of post industrial recycled material in our injection mold and packaging operations. We significantly reduced our electric usage by employing an innovative reflective roof coating. And, whenever possible, we have requested that our vendors implement similar "green" operating protocols.

6. Our Sealants Are All About Energy Efficiency.

With each of our sealants, our goal is to help your home or building project reduce the unnecessary consumption of energy. If this isn’t a dedication to being “green” then we don’t know what is!

Even with all of the progress we have made so far, we are committed to going further in our “green” journey. Hopefully this has inspired you to look at the areas in your life that could be a little more “green” and make the changes necessary to have a more positive impact on our environment.
